ICW: Edhy Prabowo's Being Declared Suspect Slap in Face for Jokowi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) researcher Tama Langkun on Monday said the alleged corruption committed by former Maritime and Fisheries Minister Edhy Prabowo was a huge blow to President Joko Widodo or Jokowi.
According to Tama, “[Edhy Prabowo’s being named as a suspect] is a direct criticism towards President Jokowi,” said Tama on Monday’s webinar with the Indonesian Aquaculture Society (MAI) on November 30.
The researcher asserted this situation forced the President to mend the managerial aspect within the Maritime and Fisheries Ministry and was a call for him to be cautious in considering the names of future replacement candidates.
To prevent future recurrences, Tama believed that a strict and thorough background check must be done for Edhy Prabowo’s replacement, and that candidates who are competent, independent, and with integrity should be put forth.
“Because the one that is replaced is corrupt, there are aspects that must be paid attention to,” said the ICW researcher.
Edhy Prabowo has officially resigned from his position as Maritime and Fisheries Minister after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named him a graft suspect.
