TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Member of the 'moral movement' Save Indonesia Coalition (KAMI), Refly Harun, argued that the arrest and suspect-naming of former Maritime and Fisheries Minister Edhy Prabowo exposed the failure of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s to eradicate corruption.
“It goes to show the failures of the President’s administration in recruiting people who are credible, free from corruption, trouble-free, and having the will to do good for the nation,” said Refly in Thursday’s virtual seminar, Nov. 26.
He said that the graft case of Edhy Prabowo was not the first time a state-minister under Jokowi’s leadership had entangled themselves with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). One example was the former minister and Golkar Party’s Idrus Marham who was also nabbed over corruption.
The KAMI member also criticized Jokowi’s statement who appreciated and supported the legal proceedings against the former fisheries minister. Refly viewed such an act lacks an extraordinary spirit to fight corruption.
KPK, on Tuesday, officially named Edhy Prabowo as a suspect of corruption related to fisheries business permits. He was arrested as he arrived at Soekarno-Hatta airport following his visit to the United States.
