Jokowi Comments on Minister Edhy Prabowo's Arrest by KPK

25 November 2020 14:33 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said the government respects the ongoing legal process at the Corruption Eradication Commission regarding the arrest of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Edhy Prabowo today morning, November 25, 2020.

“We respect the ongoing legal process at the KPK. We respect it. And I believe KPK implements transparency, open, and professional work. The government consistently supports the efforts to prevent and eradicate corruption,” said the President in a statement published via the Presidential Secretariat YouTube channel on Wednesday.

Edhy Prabowo was arrested at the airport at around 1:23 a.m. over an alleged corruption case in the lobster hatchlings export.

The minister was nabbed upon his arrival from an official visit to the United States. Other than Edhy, the anti-graft body apprehended his family members and employees of the ministry.

“[We have arrested] several people, including family members and the ministry staffers. We will expose the details of the case later,” said the KPK Deputy Head Nurul Ghufron on Wednesday, November 25, 2020.
