TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly said Monday the government had not yet discussed the possibility to include the alcohol prohibition draft bill (RUU) in the 2021 national legislation program (Prolegnas).
He maintained that the draft bill, which aimed at prohibiting the consumption of alcoholic beverages, had not even been made into an official suggestion by the House of Representatives (DPR).
“Up to this moment, we have not discussed the possibility to include the RUU alcohol prohibition in the 2021 prolegnas, which will soon be named together with the House,” wrote Yasonna on Monday.
Yasonna believed legislators of the House legislation board (Baleg) had yet to meet eye-to-eye regarding this issue. "That is why the government is still at the position of observing its developments," he said. The PDIP member also called on the public to not be easily provoked by the alcohol prohibition draft bill.
The DPR official website elaborates that the draft bill contains 7 Chapters and 24 Articles, and that deliberations on the draft bill has been halted midway after its inception in 2015.
