Anies Baswedan Reveals Flood Mitigation Plan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan stressed that the city government is focusing on land acquisition to increase the capacity of rivers and reservoirs for flood prevention, as well as repairing pumping machines.
“We will procure more mobile flood pumps and repair stationary pumps,” said Anies in a plenary meeting on the regional budget (APBD) at the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) Building on Friday, November 6.
Anies said his side will build a pump system that supports the polder and sea dikes system. “It will be carried out in a single year or multiple years,” he added.
Jakarta Development Planning Board (Bappeda) Head Nasrudin Djoko Surjono previously explained that in this year's Revised Budget, Jakarta allocated Rp1.8 trillion for flood mitigation. Meanwhile, in the draft budget priorities and ceiling (KUA-PPAS), the city allotted Rp4 trillion.
According to Djoko, there are nine focuses on flood prevention next year, including constructing polders, repairing flood pumps, building reservoirs, increasing river and drainage capacity, and constructing coastal embankment.
Jakarta Government also planned to build vertical drainage, develop flood analysis and supporting information systems, rehabilitate Kali Besar in the Kota Tua area, and revitalize Ciliwung River in the Pasar Baru area.
