TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan on Wednesday said that many people still ignore to wear face masks, even though he stressed that it is the most basic aspect in curbing the spread of COVID-19.
“If there are people who continue to refuse to wear a face mask, it’s as if you don’t even care about your own personal safety,” said the governor during a virtual discussion aired on Youtube, July 29.
Anies even had to stress the effectiveness of masks in stopping droplets from spreading the virus that has claimed over 661,000 lives worldwide, according to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus resource center per July 29.
“The potential of spreading the virus through droplets are huge. That is why we must wear a face mask, and it is also a statement to others that we are also thinking about other people’s safety,” he said.
Anies Baswedan maintains that the society can help prevent or even break the chain of COVID-19 transmissions by constantly abiding by health protocols that require the use of face masks, maintaining physical distances, and regularly washing hands.
