TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A spokesman for President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, Fadjroel Rachman, announced the president had barred state officials from holding Eid open house gatherings this year.
“In order to comply with the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB), there will be no open house event of Eid al-Fitr 144 Hijri at the State Presidential Palace and the Vice Presidential Palace,” said Fadjroel via short message on Friday, May 22.
Hosting an open house is part of traditions practiced by Indonesian Muslims to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. The State Palace usually holds the gathering where the public could meet and shake hands with the President and the First Lady.
Fadjroel added that open house gatherings at ministerial and institutional offices were also prohibited. “Including at houses of ministers and state institution heads during the enforcement of PSBB,” Fadjroel underlined.
