2019 SEA Games; Indonesian Rowing Team Aims for 9 Golds

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Rowing Association (PODSI) set a target to bag nine gold medals or 50 percent of total medals for all matches of rowing, canoe, kayak, and dragon boat sports in 2019 SEA Games which is slated to be held in the Philippines in November-December.
“We aim for nine golds from 18 matches in the 30th SEA Games. We are optimistic to achieve the target because, in 2018 Asian Games, we won one gold medal, five silvers, and four bronzes,” said PODSI head Basuki Hadimuljono in Jakarta, Wednesday, Feb. 28.

The national meeting of PODSI central board, Basuki opined, was a starting point for Indonesian rowing to prepare junior athletes in the Philippines Sea Games, the qualification of Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and 2020 National Sports Week (PON).
“We hope our rowing and canoe athletes can pass the qualification of Tokyo 2020 Olympics,” said Basuki who is also the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing.
PODSI’s head of organization division, Hifni Hasan, said that the meeting was aimed at evaluating the work program of Indonesian rowing and canoe in 2018 and planning future programs in 2019.
“As many as 26 out of 32 provincial committees present in the national meeting and focus to achieve the targets set by PODSI head in SEA Games and the qualification of Tokyo 2020 Olympics,” Hifni added.
