TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo aims to lead a meeting with cabinet ministers just before noon at the president’s office upon discussing the government mitigation on earthquake-stricken areas in Central Sulawesi; Palu and Donggala.

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake shook Palu and Donggala last Friday, which resulted in a tsunami rushing to areas of Palu and Donggala. The government fears a death toll that is expected to reach the thousands.

Right after the disaster set, President Jokowi visited the location that was affected the worst and stated that Palu is still under an emergency status. Lately, the Indonesian government decided to welcome humanitarian aid offered by multiple countries that is considered to be able to reduce the weight currently carried by survivors in Donggala and Palu.

The coordinating minister of political, law, and security affairs Wiranto said that 18 countries had expressed their willingness to help Indonesia overcome the disaster. Regarding the government’s mitigation, Wiranto acknowledged that Indonesia still lacks anticipative measures when faced with natural disasters as the earthquake and tsunami in Palu and Donggala.
