TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police continue its investigation on the Zahro Express ship incident in Thousand Island waters on January 1, 2017. The Police will conduct further investigation on the role of Port and Harbormaster Authority (KSOP) in the accident that killed 24 passengers of the ship.
"We will investigate the KSOP, whether they can be named as suspect or not," said Chief of Metro Jaya Police Insp. Gen. Mochammad Iriawan on Wednesday, January 11, 2017.
Iriawan asserted that the KSOP should have been aware of the number of the ship's passenger before giving permission to sail. Based on Police findings, the ship's passenger manifest only contains 100 names while in reality, the ship carries 190 passengers.
"We will questioned the KSOP why they did not check [the number of passengers]," Iriawan said.
Currently, the Police had only named Muhammad Nali, captain of the Zahro Express, as the suspect in the incident. Nali was claimed to be responsible for allowing the ship to sail without proper preparation.
Iriawan said that the Police will continue to examine witnesses related to the incident.
