TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Urban planning and transportation observer Yayat Supriatna has called for a thorough evaluation of city-owned bus operator Transjakarta's management following five road accidents in 40 consecutive days
“There must be an evaluation if three consecutive accidents happen within a month,” said Yayat on December 3, Antaranews reported.
He said bus operator management must not record any more road accidents after the evaluation as it put people’s lives at stake.
There were five accidents involving Transjakarta buses in the past 40 days with the first being the fatal incident that saw one bus rear-end another stationary bus that unfortunately killed a driver and a passenger.
The latest incidents took place at the crowded PGC area on Thursday and just this morning saw one bus crash into a concrete traffic barrier in Jakarta’s Sudirman Street. The incident today, according to an official police statement, is caused by the driver who lost concentration and veered into the Busway separator.
Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission B members are set to summon the Transjakarta management regarding the frequent road accidents.
