TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Traffic Police are investigating a possible brake failure as the cause of the Transjakarta bus accident on Monday morning, October 25, which killed one person on Jalan MT Haryono, East Jakarta.

“This is possibly due to a vehicle error, meaning that there may be damage to the brake. We will ask for the opinions of experts or technicians,” said Jakarta Traffic Police Director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo in South Jakarta, Monday.

Sambodo said his side would check CCTV cameras in the bus to determine whether there was negligence or human errors.

The fatal incident occurred at around 9 a.m. when a Transjakarta bus heading to Cawang from Semanggi hit another bus that was stopping at the Indomobil bus stop. The bus in front was dragged several meters from the collision site. The driver was squashed and it was difficult to evacuate his body.

The Jakarta Traffic Police’s Directorate of Traffic Security Head, Adj. Sr. Comr. Argo Wiyono, explained that 37 passengers suffering injuries had been rushed to Budi Asih Hospital. “The dead victim was taken to Kramat Jati Hospital,” he said.
