2020 Traffic Accident Victims Dominated by People Over 50

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry on Tuesday presented the data on traffic accidents that happened throughout 2020. It revealed that the victims of traffic accidents were mainly dominated by people aged 50 years old and above, while the second demographic was people at the productive age of 20-29.
Citing Antara News on March 9, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi reminded people that traffic discipline and personal safety should take precedence.
“Love your life through proper traffic discipline, especially the drivers. Obey the rules and always properly wear your helmet when riding motorcycles,” he said in the press release.
According to the Ministry’s director general of land transportation, victims of traffic accidents in cars and motorcycles were 26,906 people in the 10-19 years old demographic; 29,281 people (20-29 years old); 18,553 people (30-39 years old); 17,980 people (40-49 years old); 31,740 people aged 50 and above.
Classified based on the victim’s education level, the 2020 car and motorcycle accidents were mostly dominated by high school students with 80,641 cases, while junior high school and primary school students were 17,699 cases and 12,557 cases respectively.
According to the National Traffic Police Unit, the number of road accidents in Indonesia in 2020 amounted to 100,028 car and motorcycle accidents, which injured 113,518 people, severely injured 10,751 people, and killed 23,529 people.
