Police Records 279 Accidents During Homecoming

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) revealed that there have been 279 accidents during the Eid Al-Fitr homecoming period, with 39 casualties.

"Based on our traffic accident data, as many 279 accidents have occurred with 39 people dead," said Head of Public Information of the Public Relation Division of Polri Sr. Comr. Gatot Repli Handoko, as quoted from Polri's National Traffic Management Center (NTMC) on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

Also, the accidents resulted in 45 severe injuries and 362 minor injuries. Gatot added that the amount of damages reached up to IDR 500 million.

In addition to accidents, Polri also recorded 18,677 traffic violations during the 2022 homecoming period. As many as 1,954 violators were fined and the remaining 16,733 were released with a warning.

Gatot informed that compared to Saturday, April 30, 2022, the volume of vehicles leaving Jakarta has decreased by 4 percent or equals to 217,081 units.
