TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An A-1334 Nave 32 Hercules plane operated by the Indonesian Air Force departing from Timika, Mimika regency to Wamena, Jayawijaya regency, Papua, on Sunday morning reportedly went down around Mount Lisuwa in Jayawijaya regency.
Head of Information Division of the Cenderawasih Military Command Colonel Infantry Teguh PR confirmed that the plane owned had lost contact at around 8 am local time.
"At around 8 am local time, we received information that at around 06:09 am, the plane lost contact," Teguh said on Sunday.
The plane, which carried 12 passengers, reportedly lost contact in Mount Lisuwa, Jayawijaya Regency, Teguh said.
Teguh added that the plane reportedly also carried food and other materials.
The plane departed from Timika on Sunday morning at around 5:35 Eastern Indonesian Time and was expected to arrive in Wamena at around 06:13 WIT.
As the time of writing, the search and rescue team, the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the Police are trying to evacuate the passengers of the ill-fated plane.
