Surabaya Airport Temporarily Closed After LionAir Plane Skids Off

TEMPO.CO, Sidoarjo - A Lion Air plane type Boeing 737-9GP with the flight number JT-263 to Balikpapan from Surabaya skidded off runaway when it was landing, forcing the temporary closure of Juanda Airport.
Legal And Communication of state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura of Juanda Surabaya branch, Liza Anindya, on Saturday said that the plane skidded off at the runaway of the airport at around 11:08am local time.
"All the passengers were safe and the evacuation to the passengers have been finished,” Liza said, adding that the plane carried 215 passengers.
In the meantime, Manager of General Services of PT Angkasa Pura of Juanda Surabaya Branch Didik Tjatur P said that following the incident, the airports was temporarily closed until 3:30pm.
"We’re closing the airport because we’re stil evacuating the plane,” he added.
