TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The evacuation team failed to reach the crash site of Aviastar Plane at Mt. Bajaja, Luwu, South Sulawesi. The team was exhausted as they had to walk to the crash site through steep terrain, equipped only with limited rations.
The team, departing at 06:30 local time, can only reach Post 1, which is three-hour walk to the crash site. "We cannot push through. We are running out of supply. We had to go back, it was getting dark as haze started to cover the mount," said Abdullah, member of the Search and Rescue Team, on Tuesday Oct 6.
He estimated that on-foot evacuation will require a longer amount of time. "The terrain is more difficult than that of military training," he said.
Chief of the National Disaster Management, FH Bambang Sulistiyo, said that airborne evacuation is being considered. `If possible, we take the airborne route,` said Sulistiyo.
