KAI Opens New Train Routes from Gambir to Garut and Banjar

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) launched two new routes connecting Jakarta with Garut and Banjar, West Java. The new trains, KA Papandayan for the Gambir-Garut route and KA Pandangaran for the Gambir-Banjar route will begin operation today, January 24.

“The launch of these new trains is aimed at improving services for customers so that there are more choices for traveling by train,” said Ixfan Hendriwintoko, the spokesperson for KAI Regional Operation (Daop) 1 Jakarta, in his statement in Jakarta, January 24.

KA Papandayan and KA Pangandaran have one panoramic train car, three executive train cars, and four premium economy train cars, with a total of 508 seats on each train.

The journey on KA Papandayan takes approximately four hours and 50 minutes, while the journey on KA Pangandaran takes six hours and 55 minutes.

Timetable and ticket prices

KA Pangandaran is scheduled to depart from Gambir Station at 09:30 local time, from Bandung Station at 12:20 local time, and arrive at Banjar Station at 16:25 local time. For the opposite route, the train departs from Banjar Station at 16:55 local time, from Bandung Station at 22:00 local time, and arrives at Gambir Station at 00:49 local time.

KA Papandayan train departs from Gambir Station at 06:30 local time, from Bandung Station at 09:20 local time, and arrives at Garut Station at 11:20 local time. For the reverse route, the train departs from Garut Station at 12:30 local time, from Bandung Station at 15:00 local time, and arrives at Gambir Station at 17:45 local time.

The price of the KA Papandayan train is Rp252,000 for executive class and Rp156,000 for economy class, while KA Pangandaran is priced at Rp296,000 for executive class and Rp180,000 for economy class. As for the Panoramic trains, both are priced at Rp550,000.
