TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway firm Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) officially launched the Suite Class Compartment train car attached to KA Bima and KA Argo Semeru, which travels from Gambir Station in Jakarta to Surabaya Gubeng Station in Surabaya and vice versa
“This is to meet the public interest. [The long-distance] trains now have suite compartments,” KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo said at the launch at Gambir Station, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.
Didiek explained that rail transportation has its own unique features that boost public interest, one of which is its punctuality. He added that this is one of the company's selling points.
“We are targeting high-end customers. We are optimistic that the Suite Class Compartment train car will receive a warm welcome and become the first choice of customers who travel long distances with a sense of luxury,” he said.
KAI offers special ticket price deals from October 10 to 31. The ticket price for the highest class is set at Rp1,950,000.
The Suite Class Compartment provides a private seating experience for its passengers. It has 16 private rooms with 180-degree reclining and rotating seats equipped with massage and heating functions.
“KAI wants to present a new experience that is on par with first-class airlines, both in terms of convenience and the food served. This will hopefully allow KAI to provide a full service to its customers,” Didiek concluded.
