TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia or KAI Director Didiek Hartantyo announced that the company will officially launch a new luxury train named the Suite Class Compartment in mid-October 2023.
Didiek explained that the train would have three carriages in the initial stage. Each of them will consist of 16 compartments or rooms. “This is the Bima reborn train,” he said during the train’s joy ride event, on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
Invited to try the luxury train from Jakarta to Cirebon, Tempo observed that the train offers similar facilities to that of the airplane’s first class. Each passenger has their own room measuring approximately 1.2 x 2 meters.
Its features include 180-degree reclining seats that can be used as sleeping mattresses and rotating seats added with leg rests and LCDs for onboard infotainment.
“The train seats are equipped with a touch panel for seat controls, such as reclining and rotating. There is also a massage option. The seat material is also made of premium deer skin which is very soft,” Didiek explained.
He said the train was designed for maximum customer privacy. Designed in a golden brown color with warm lighting to make it feel like a home, each private compartment has an electric sliding door. High-tech toilets are also available on the luxury train.
In its initial phase, the train will serve routes from Jakarta's Gambir Station to Surabaya's Gubeng Station.
Ainny, one of the train's guides, said that passengers will enjoy a three-course meal, including an appetizer, main course, and dessert in Asian (traditional) or Western style. There will also be a welcome drink and amenities such as warm towels.
“With this Joy Ride event, KAI wants participants to experience the services and facilities offered [on the Suite Class Compartment train]. We hope to receive feedback, suggestions, and input so that we can evaluate and make improvements to provide a better service in the upcoming launch,” Didiek concluded.
