TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The President Director of MRT Jakarta Tuhiyat responded to the MRT development plan in the Nusantara Capital City or IKN. "MRT Jakarta’s operation focuses on Jakarta," said Tuhiyat on Thursday, May 16.
Previously, the IKN Authority targeted the construction of the MRT and high-speed trains connecting IKN with partner regions such as Balikpapan after 2024. Tuhiyat admitted he had received an informal offer to participate in the MRT project at IKN. However, MRT Jakarta's current priority is completing the supporting infrastructure and railways development in Jakarta. "Currently we are focusing on achieving the groundbreaking for the East-West (MRT Jakarta) line in August 2024," he said.
On the other hand, Tuhiyat said MRT expansion to IKN is possible. According to him, MRT Jakarta awaits the local government’s order to expand the project to IKN. The company also plans to submit a request on MRT scope provision change to allow them a wider business potential in and outside of Jakarta.
"After all, MRT Jakarta is owned by the provincial government and we follow their order,” he said.
Previously, OIKN's Deputy for Green and Digital Technology, Ali Berawi, said on September 30, 2023, that the construction of local rail-based transportation modes would be carried out after 2024.
Ali also added that IKN will use Urban Air Mobility (Sky Taxi) and autonomous vehicles. Sky Taxi so far has reached the developmental stage and proof of concept, which will be carried out this year. "Next year, we will conduct the showcase based on the proof of concept for Sky Taxi and the autonomous vehicles which is part of IKN development as a city of the present and future," said Ali.
The development of an intelligent transportation system by utilizing digital technology, such as the installation of sensors/Internet of Things (IoT), cameras, big data, and artificial intelligence use will begin in 2024.
"Meanwhile, for the 2024 target, public transportation in the Central Government Core Area (KIPP) includes electric-based bus services along with supporting facilities for the bus stops and Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) facilities. There are also facilities for pedestrians and bicycle users within the KIPP 1A area," he said.
