TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Heru Budi Hartono, said President Joko Widodo or Jokowi will work from National Capital City (IKN) from September 10 to October 19, 2024.
“Yes, around 40 days,” confirmed Budi in an interview in South Jakarta on Friday, September 6, 2024, as quoted from a video received by Tempo.
Based on that information, Jokowi will work from IKN until the inauguration of President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The presidential inauguration is scheduled for October 20.
According to Heru, Jokowi will likely visit other cities during his stay in IKN. The Acting Governor of Jakarta also stated that Jokowi would invite several parties to meet in the new capital city.
Jokowi’s decision to move to IKN has been brought up several times. At the tail end of July, Jokowi stayed in IKN for two days. The president then opted for a longer stay in IKN during August to prepare for the commemoration of Indonesian Independence Day.
Recently, Minister of Public Works and Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, also mentioned Jokowi’s plan to move office in September. According to the minister, the head of state will work from IKN after the airport construction is completed.
On August 23, Basuki updated that the runway construction at IKN Airport had reached 1,100 meters out of the temporary 2,200 meters target.
Jokowi’s plan to move office coincides with the plan for civil servant (ASN) transfer to IKN. However, Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, Abdullah Azwar Anas, affirmed that the ASN transfer will be postponed this September.
President Jokowi said the permanent transfer of government employees to the new capital requires preparedness of facilities. The former Jakarta Governor stressed that IKN is a long-term project.
“So it's not as easy as we imagine to move and relocate immediately because it depends on whether the house or apartment is ready," Jokowi said after inaugurating the Djuanda Flyover, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, on Friday, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat video.
"I think we will only move when everything is really ready. Myself included. Moving requires full readiness," Jokowi said.
