TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The main infrastructure development in Nusantara, the city that will soon be the new capital of Indonesia, has been completed. The main development is taking place in a part of Penajam Paser Utara Regency, East Kalimantan Province, namely in Sepaku District.
"So far, the main infrastructure development of Nusantara City has been completed," said Danis Hidayat Sumadilaga, head of the IKN Infrastructure Development Implementation Task Force, in Penajam on Friday, September 6.
The main infrastructure that has been completed is the State Palace, offices, apartments for state officials (ASN), toll roads, bridges, the Batu water source dam, and a number of other facilities. All of these are part of the first phase of development of Indonesia's new capital out of the planned five phases of development of Nusantara City.
As for the basic infrastructure that will be completed and operational in 2022-2024, Danis said, including, he continued, infrastructure to provide drinking water, electricity, information and communication technology, waste and wastewater management for the first residents.
Development work in this period also includes the construction of key facilities, including the presidential palace, offices and housing in the core government center area (KIPP), and priority accommodation for the economic sector.
In 2025-2029, development will focus on making the new capital a resilient core area with all public transportation facilities already in use. After that, expansion of the ASN, military and police housing, and central government offices will continue.
"There will also be research and talent development, as well as leading universities, continued development and maintenance of basic infrastructure," Danis said.
Even More Progressive by 2030
Development will continue more progressively in 2030-2034, including the development of integrated utilities and rail access from Balikpapan City Airport to KIPP Nusantara City, the development of industrial estates and other sectors in the Super Hub Cluster. These will be supported by strengthening smart cities, digital centers, 21st century education, and increasing investment and production capacity of economic clusters.
The 2035-2039 period is the stage of building all the infrastructure and ecosystems of the three cities to accelerate the development of Kalimantan, Danis explained, including rapid development in education and health as the driving force of the economy, strengthening the socio-cultural resilience of the community and increasing the capacity of educational and research institutions, increasing the capacity of basic infrastructure, and increasing the capacity and diversification of economic clusters.
The final phase, which is to strengthen Nusantara as a world-class city, will take place in 2040-2045, Danis said, and will include the development of mass public transportation based on roads and trains in the new capital of Indonesia and surrounding partner areas. This period will also see the strengthening of integrated infrastructure and utilities, the achievement of net zero carbon emissions and 100 percent renewable energy, and the development of sustainable industries.
