TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police Commissioner Binsar Hatorangan Sianturi, head of the Pademangan Sector's Police, said there was no evidence of theft committed by Hasanuddin, 43, who died after being assaulted by the security guards of Ancol who suspected him of stealing. The assault, which took place on July 29 this year, was allegedly carried out in order to make Hasanuddin confess.

"There is no evidence that the victim committed the theft," said Binsar in a press conference at Pademangan Police Station, Thursday, August 3.

The security guards who have all been named suspects—P (35), H (33), and K (43)—suspected Hasanuddin, who was visiting Ancol, of planning to steal. They took Hasanuddin to a place behind the security post and interrogated him with violence, including whipping him with a cable and caning him with rattan. Two other suspects, S (31) and A joined in the act not long after, and they all poured chili water all over Hasanuddin's body.

P and H took Hasanuddin into the security car, planning to take him out of Ancol. But the car ran out of gas and they returned to Ancol. After discovering that Hasanuddin had died, they reported it to their leader.

"The security chief then made a report to the police," Binsar Hatorangan Sianturi said.

Binsar said that four of the suspects had been taken into custody. "One perpetrator of the persecution is still in the search process. We have his address and we know what he looks like," he said.
