TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo took another ride on Light Rail Transit or LRT Jabodebek during a trial run today, August 3, 2023. He asked the public to understand deficiencies in the new transportation modes being worked on by the government, including the LRT.
This rail-based mode of transportation, he said, is a new face in Indonesia, so improvement in its implementation is certainly needed.
“We have to remember that we built MRT for the first time, this LRT for the first time, the high-speed train for the first time. So if there is still imperfection, repairs, and corrections, everything must be evaluated,” the President said while riding the LRT during the trial run, on Thursday, August 3, 2023.
Jokowi also reminded the public not to expect the train to operate flawlessly. “Once again, this is the first time it's been built, don't expect everything to be perfect. There must be improvements, and everything will be developed, not stopping here,” he added.
Therefore, he asked the LRT operator, PT KAI, to keep making improvements until the transport mode is really ready to serve passengers. “Keep checking it as it is still in a trial. The system, security, are safety are the critical things,” he maintained.
The President rode LRT today at 08:15 a.m., departing from Harjamukti Station in Depok and taking off at Dukuh Atas Station in Jakarta. He was accompanied by SOE Minister Erick Thohir, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, and Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono.
“I have rode [LRT Jabodebek] three times [during a trial run]. It's comfortable,” Jokowi said.
