TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian COVID-19 task force health management head Alexander K. Ginting on Monday confirmed that MotoGP riders and racing officials will not be required to undergo the country’s centralized COVID-19 quarantine as they arrive for the pre-season testing at the newly-built Mandalika Circuit.

Ginting explained that this is possible due to the travel bubble established between the Indonesian government and the motorcycle racing series organizers stated under the task force’s official circular No.5/2022 on health protocols under the bubble system for the MotoGP 2022 event.

“Once they undergo a quarantine bubble they do not have to undergo the centralized quarantine as the two policies would contradict with each other,” said the task force member in Jakarta on February 7, Antaranews reported.

The quarantine bubble states that riders and officials must enter the Mandalika travel bubble area through the Lombok Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport. They are also restricted to interacting with people who are included in the travel bubble and areas that are mentioned in the circular.

This travel bubble scheme was established after Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta once commented in a GPone interview that a MotoGp race will not be held in countries that require the racing paddock members to undergo a lengthy COVID-19 quarantine.
