5 Top Indonesian Tourist Destinations Other Than Bali

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesia has many hidden paradises other than Bali which has recently been considered suffering from overtourism. President Joko Widodo or Jokowi had asked Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno to develop super-priority tourist destinations to replicate Bali tourism's success.

Here is a list of five super-priority tourist destinations as summarized from Koran Tempo:

1. Lake Toba

Lake Toba in North Sumatra has many interesting places. Some of the famous ones are Holbung Hill and Huta Ginjang, where tourists can enjoy the breathtaking view of Toba Caldera.

Tuktuk Siadong Village also allows visitors to experience the rich culture of the Batak tribe. Tourists can also taste the traditional culinary delights in Paropo and hunt for traditional cloth ulos as souvenirs.

2. Borobodur Temple

Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java is one of the world’s largest Buddhist temples. Besides religious and historical tourism, the temple can also be enjoyed in other ways. Try visiting the destination when the sun rises and witness the majestic silhouette of the temple with its beautiful natural panorama.

3. Mandalika

Mandalika has become a tourist magnet in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) for its exotic beaches. Tourists can do many exciting activities, such as adrenaline sports tourism, cultural exploration of the Sasak tribe, and tasting typical Lombok culinary delights.

4. Labuan Bajo

Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is a paradise for nature and adventure lovers. Komodo Island, home of Komodo dragons, offers a unique experience with the prehistoric giant lizard.

Tourists can also go trekking on Padar Island to enjoy the sunset and explore the underwater beauty of Kelor Island and Merah Beach, which are famous for their pink beaches.

5. Likupang

Likupang in North Sulawesi offers beautiful marine tourism and stunning underwater panoramas. Tourists will be spoiled by the clean beaches with white sand and coral reefs. Not to mention various traditional delicious culinary delights, such as tinutuan porridge, panada, goroho, sambal roa, and lalampa.
