TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) confirmed that it would prepare bonuses for the U-23 national team despite failing to seal the 2024 Paris Olympics ticket. The PSSI Executive Committee member Arya Sinulingga said the performance of the Garuda Muda team in last night's playoff against Guinea should be appreciated.
“[A bonus for the U-23 team] is definite. But we are waiting for the PSSI chairman (Erick Thohir). He has already arranged it for sure,” Arya said in the GBK Stadium area in Senayan on Thursday, May 9.
He stopped short of revealing the bonus amount yet assured that there would be such an appreciation.
Indonesia narrowly missed their first Olympic appearance since 1956 after losing 1-0 to Guinea in the playoff match held at the Clairefontaine Stadium in Paris, France, on Thursday, May 9. Ilaix Moriba scored the only goal for Guinea from the penalty spot.
Arya admitted that he was disappointed with the outcome. However, he was proud that the team coached by Shin Tae-yong performed well even without key players Justin Hubner and Rizky Ridho.
Despite the setback, the Indonesian U-23 national team achieved a significant milestone. They not only met but surpassed the target set by the PSSI for the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup. The debutants etched their names in history by reaching the semi-finals and securing a respectable fourth place finish.
