TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- Head of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) Bambang Soesatyo on Thursday said Indonesia will host two international racing events in 2022, which consists of the electric formula series Formula E and the prototype motorcycle racing championship MotoGP.
He hopes that the racing series will eventually boost economic recovery that had been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We expect it to attract many tourists,” said Bambang on November 25.
He is optimistic that these races would replicate the success of the recent Mandalika World Superbike (WSBK) race, which he claimed was watched by 1.5 billion viewers worldwide.
Bambang Soesatyo has been appointed to lead the Formula E steering committee with IMI secretary general Ahmad Sahroni leading the organizing committee. City-owned company Jakpro will be responsible for overseeing the race’s operations.
Jakarta is enlisted as a Formula E host city and is slated to host the race on June 4, 2022.
