TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) supervisory board has handed a guilty verdict for KPK deputy Lili Pintauli Siregar in an ethics trial and handed her a 40 percent wage cut for 12 consecutive years.

The supervisory board deputy Tumpak Hatorangan said members of the board believe Lili Pintauli had violated two aspects in handling the graft case involving the Tanjungbalai Mayor.

The board deemed her guilty of abusing her influence for personal gain and for maintaining communication with an individual who is being investigated by the anti graft agency.

“What she did is an ethical violation that is already overseen under the KPK integrity pact,” said Tumpak on Monday, August 30.

The wage cut, he said, is considered as a severe form of punishment that can be handed to a KPK leader and asked people not to question this decision.

“This does not need to be argued any further because the decision was made by the forum and what the assembly believes,” he added.

A KPK employee filed a report against Lili Pintauli Siregar after she had allegedly communicated with the non-active Tanjungbalai mayor M. Syahrial who, at the time, was being investigated for a case that he eventually was found guilty of.

However, Lili Pintauli on numerous occasions and in a press conference on April 30, 2021 denied opening any communication with the suspect Syahrial.
