TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Reports have emerged about the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arresting the Regent of East Java’s City of Probolinggo early Monday dawn. The anti-graft watchdog’s deputy Nurul Ghufron confirmed the information but did not elaborate on how many were apprehended.
“For the meantime I can assure you that the KPK had commenced a [sting operation],” Ghufron confirmed in a text message to Tempo on August 30.
A source within the KPK explained to Tempo that the arrest is related to the transacting positions within the Probolinggo Administration of the position as a local village head and that the Regent’s husband was also taken by the team of Investigators for further questioning.
This was somewhat corroborated by KPK acting-spokesperson Ali Fikri who confirmed the arrests of a number of people and said these people are suspects of an alleged corruption within East Java’s Probolinggo administration.
