Dewas KPK Tries Employees Involved in Prison Bribery Scandal, including Former Warden

13 March 2024 11:17 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission, or Dewas KPK, will try several employees in the case of illegal levies or extortion in KPK detention centers. The trial will be held in closed court until the verdict is read.

Dewas member Syamsuddin Haris confirmed that two "bosses" of illegal levies in the KPK detention center were being tried today. "One of them is Ristanta, a former warden of KPK's detention center," Haris told Tempo on Wednesday, March 13.

He did not provide the details of today's judicial material and who will be in court.

The KPK continues to investigate suspects in the bribery scandal in exchange for prison perks. "There are more than 10 suspects. The investigation continues. In time, the names of the suspects, the structure of the case and the articles under suspicion will be officially announced," KPK spokesman Ali Fikri told Tempo on Monday, March 4.

One of the suspects is Hengki, a state official or ASN for the Jakarta provincial government. Ali Fikri said the KPK would process Hengki's case now that he had been named a suspect.

Last month, the KPK implemented a decision by its Ethics Board to impose sanctions on 78 officials found guilty of accepting bribes from prisoners. They were required to make a direct and public apology at the KPK Juang Building on Monday, February 26.

A total of 90 employees were investigated by the KPK. However, 12 were referred to the KPK Secretary General because they committed the ethics violations before the formation of the Dewas.
