TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Not only did the massive floods that hit Jakarta and its surrounding regions on Saturday and Sunday left trash and mud, but they also caused deaths. Based on the information gathered by Tempo, five people who were swept by flood waters were found dead.

The first body was discovered by residents floating in the Ciliwung River Pademangan, Ancol, North Jakarta. “He aged about over 30 years and was wearing batik,” said Pademangan Sector Police Chief Comr. Arga Dija Putera to Tempo on Tuesday, February 23.

The second body was a male and was spotted on Monday afternoon in the Ciliwung River, Gambir, Central Jakarta. Wearing an online taxi jacket, the man was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital or RSCM for further identification.

The National Search and Rescue (Basarnas) team also managed to find a victim drowned in the River Park, approximately 1.5 KM from the scene. The victim drowned last Sunday while swimming with two of his friends at the River Park, Pondok Aren, South Tangerang City.

The other drowning victim named Sarja, 57, was spotted in Lake Cipondoh. The victim, who was a resident of Buana Permai Complex, Cipondoh, reportedly left home to go fishing in the lake on Sunday afternoon.

Residents also discovered an unidentified male body on the Cisadane River, Jalan Kalipasir. Tangerang Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head of Emergency and Logistics, Febi Darmawan, said that his side had evacuated and examined the two drowning bodies for identification.
