TEMPO.CO, Jember - A landslide that hit Jompo, Jember Regency, East Java Province on early hours of Monday, March 2, caused nine stores on Jalan Raya Sultan Agung to collapse. Fortunately, no report of casualty from the incident.

Based on data from Jember Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), the landslip that occurred at 3:45 a.m. also disconnected the water pipes and the electricity and telecommunication networks.

As long as 94-meter roads with 10 meters in width in the area were also cracked. Several of the nine stores fell down to the earthfall.

The Jember BPBD Head of Emergency and Logistics, Heru Widagdo, explained that heavy rainfall since early this year triggered cracks and land subsidence in the riverbanks of Jompo River and flatten the banks.

Following the incident, BPBD Jember recommended the residents leave the remaining stores in the affected areas and urged PDAM, PLN, and Telkom to conduct the immediate restoration of water, electricity, and telecommunication networks.

Heru added that the disaster handling involved the Indonesian Military (TNI), National Police, Binamarga Agency, SDA, and Tagana (emergency response unit).
