Palembang to Host International Triathlon Race

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Palembang City, South Sumatra, will host an international triathlon race dubbed Palembang Triathlon on February 9-11, 2019. The organizing committee Rocca Karya Indonesia said that the city was chosen because of its well-built infrastructure.

“We also want to share experiences of Asian Games athletes [in Palembang] to all people throughout Indonesia,” said Rocca Karya Indonesia CEO Juliany Nurdin.

As many as 400 people from eight countries have registered to partake in the athletic contest that consists of three sports, namely swimming, running, and cycling.

The swimming contest will take place in Lake Jakabaring, the cycling race will pass Jembatan Ampera route, while the running race to be held in Jakabaring sports center.

The organizing committee pinned hope that the success of Indonesia in hosting Asian Games would be great momentum to establish sports event and develop sports industry in Palembang.

Meanwhile, Erick Thohir as the organizing committee head of Asian Games expected Palembang Triathlon would boost the development of the sports tourism in the region.

“Hopefully, Palembang will be known as a national brand for sports tourism,” the city Tourism Agency head Isnaini Madani added.
