TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former governor of South Sumatra Alex Noerdin was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in the corruption case in the natural gas purchase by Regional Mining and Energy Company (PDPDE) in 2010-2019 and the grant funds for the construction of Sriwijaya Great Mosque in Palembang.
“[We hereby] punish the defendant Alex Noerdin with a prison sentence of 12 years and a fine of Rp1 billion or 6 months of subsidiary imprisonment,” said Judge Yoserizal in the trial at the Palembang District Corruption Court on Wednesday, June 16, 2022.
The judge found Alex guilty of committing corruption as was indicted by the public prosecutor. However, the public prosecutor indicted the defendant with a 20 years prison sentence and a fine of Rp1 billion or six months of subsidiary jail time.
In the alleged corruption case in PDPDE, the judge stated that they found irregularities resulting in a financial state loss of US$30.194.452,79 million according to the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK).
