TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Sumatra Light Rapid Transit (LRT) management planned to build a recreational center for the public at Ampera Station, Palembang. The chief, Amanna Gappa, said that his side would provide culinary facilities to realize the plan.

"So, the station can be optimized, not only [functioned] as passengers transit area,” he said Saturday, September 11.

Ampera Station was chosen due to its strategic location. It is located among tourism objects or destinations such as the majestic Ampera Bridge adjacent to the Musi River, the 16 Ilirshopping center, Monpera, Kuto Besak Fort and Masjid Agung (grand mosque).

"The potential to attract tourist is higher, which is in line with the better condition of Covid-19 transmission in Palembang at this time,” said Amanna.

The project is targeted to finish in October this year. The company and stakeholders are discussing the detailed concept.

During the Covid-19 restriction period, LRT Palembang saw a significant decrease in occupancy of 33 percent. The daily average passengers is 3,300 people.

Currently, LRT Palembang operates 88 routes every day from 6:00 to 20:25 local time during the level 3 mobility restriction (PPKM) enforcement in the region, by abiding to the health protocols.
