Lion Air Victims Identification Continues despite Evacuation Stop

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team of Sukanto National Police Sukanto assured identification process on victims of downed Lion Air JT 610 would be continued despite the National SAR Agency (Basarnas) halted the evacuation effort.
“Identification process is continued as today we are still examining [the victims] through post-mortem DNA sample that will be sent to DNA Lab head for further analysis,” said DVI head of Sukanto Sukanto, Sr. Comr. Lisda Cancer in Jakarta, Tuesday, November 7.
Lisda said DVI teams would identify parts of Lion Air victims’ body as a whole, yet she stopped short of ensuring the period of identification process would end.
If the evacuation team could not find parts of victims’ body, the victims’ relatives would obtain legal certainty from the court to acquire death certificates, Lisda explained.
As of date, DVI team has identified 44 bodies, comprised of 33 men and 11 women, victims of the ill-fated Lion Air JT 610 which crashed into the waters of Tanjung Karawang, West Java on Monday morning, October 29, 2018.
