Earthquake Hits Pandeglang, Felt Up to South Tangerang

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A magnitude 5.0 tectonic earthquake originating from the Sunda Strait on Tuesday, October 30, at 04:19 Western Indonesia Time rocked areas in Pandeglang and slowly weakened near the Ciputat area.


Earthquake and tsunami early warning Daryono from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded that the quake’s epicenter was 126 kilometers Southwest of Pandeglang City, Banten Province.

BMKG revealed that the earthquake’s hypocenter was from a depth of 65 kilometers and is categorized by the agency to be a medium-sized quake.


“The cause of the quake is from the activities shown by the Indo-Australia plate subduing under the Eurasian plate,” said Daryono. The agency’s analysis state that it can be pinned to thrust faults.


The minor earthquake was reportedly felt up to the Ciputat area in South Tangerang. BMKG’s monitoring has yet to show any potential aftershocks.
