56 Hospital Patients Evacuated As Earthquake Hit Tasikmalaya

TEMPO.CO, Purwokerto - As many as 56 patients of Banyumas General Hospital are relocated to safer rooms due to the damage on several inpatient units following 6.9 Richter Scale earthquake in the south of Java.
"The evacuation is still ongoing, it is nearly complete," Banyumas Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Prasetyo Budi Widodo said in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency on Saturday, Dec. 16.

He explained that patients are relocated to safer units, but still in the same hospital.
"BPBD has prepared emergency tents to anticipate overload of patients, but it seems that the units in the hospital still suffice," he added.
In addition to Banyumas General Hospital, Siaga Medika Banyumas Hospital also suffered from damage.
Based on temporary data collected by Banyumas BPBD and Banyumas emergency response unit (Tagana), at least 31 houses in the region were damaged due to the earthquake and most of them were torn down.
