TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - First Marshall Dwi Badmanto, Head of the Information Department of the Indonesian Air Force claimed that aging plane was not the main cause of the Hercules C-130B crash in Medan, which occurred on Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Dwi said that investigation on the accident is currently ongoing.
"[…] If the primary defense weapon system is old but the maintenance is good, it could still operate well," Dwi told Tempo on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.
Dwi confirmed that a number of aircrafts owned by the air force are outdated, including some of the transport planes, exercise planes and fighter jets.
The Air Force also respected President Joko Widodo’s commitment to focus on improving defense equipment. "The government has full authority over the purchase of primary defense weapon system, not [the Air Force]," said Dwi.
