India Inaugurates Mission to ASEAN

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, inaugurated the Indian Mission to ASEAN in Jakarta on Thursday, April 23, 2015. The inauguration was held in the presence of Secretary General of ASEAN Le Luong Minh, Director General for ASEAN Cooperation in the Indonesian Foreign Ministry I Gusti Agung Wesaka Puja, and several other high-ranking officials.
Ambassador Reddy stated in his welcome remark that establishment of the Mission reflected the strong commitment and vision of the Indian government to strengthen the country’s relationship with ASEAN Member States.
Minister Sushma, in her statement, emphasised that ASEAN was at the core of India's Act East Policy and at the centre of India's dream of an Asian century.
Sushma further stated that the Indian government, through its Act East Policy, is currently focusing on reorganizing this partnership in the 21st century context to make it more pragmatic, action driven and result oriented.
In addition, Sushma hoped that the Mission would bring focus, objectivity, synergy and speed to India's ever-expanding engagement with ASEAN and the ASEAN-centric processes.
