TEMPO.CO, Seoul - South Korean President Park Geun-hye condemned the behavior of the captain and crew of the Sewol ferry in relation to the accident affecting the ferry's 476 passengers. According to the president, their behavior was "comparable to murder."
The ferry captain Lee Joon-Seok, along with the ferry's helmsman and first officers, have been arrested since Saturday, April 19, 2014.
Al-Jazeera's correspondent Adrian Brown reported that four crews of the ship were also arrested on Monday, April 21, 2014.
"The actions of the captain and some crew members were utterly incomprehensible, unacceptable and tantamount to murder," Park Geun-hye said as quoted by a number of media in a meeting with her senior aides on Monday, April 21, 2014.
Park said that captain Lee should not delay the evacuation of passengers from the ferry as it started to sink.
"This is utterly unimaginable, legally and ethically," she said as reported by Al Jazeera.
Park added that all parties related to the disaster, including owners, safety inspectors and crews of the ship would be investigated. Those responsible would be held "criminally accountable," according to Park.
