TEMPO.CO, Pekanbaru - Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) in Pekanbaru has issued food recall warning to three canned mackerel brands contaminated with roundworms parasite. BPOM stated to will revoke the brand license should the product still circulated in the market.
“We have severe warning of administrative sanction such as withdraw the license if they do not take back their product,” said the agency’s chairman Kashuri, Wednesday, March 21.
Kashuri stated the three canned mackerel brands that were proved to contain the parasite include Farmerjack, Hoki, and IO which are imported from Singapore. The recall was triggered by people's report in Tembilahan, Indragiri Hilir on last Thursday, March 15, and followed by the report from residents in Selatpanjang, Kepulauan Meranti who also found roundworms in the canned mackerel.

“After examining the canned mackerel, it is proved to contain roundworms from Anisakis Species. We have issued severe recall warning to the importers,” said Kahuri.
According to Kashuri, he has assigned BPOM officers to ensure the food recall process. “The importers from Batam and Jakarta have investigated and conducted the food secure, and they recalled the products on their own,” he said.
However, Kashuri claimed to has yet found the three brands in Pekanbaru. He expected the public to remain calm regarding the issue.
