TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following several cases of stolen cash balances of BRI Kediri customers, member of the Indonesia Payment Systems Association (ASPI) Kresno Sediarsi shared a few encouraging tips on safe transactions with ATM cards via electronic data capture (EDC) devices.

“The safety measures must be practiced by both sides, the ATM card holders and also from the transaction service provider,” said Kresno in an interview with Tempo on Wednesday, March 14.

The following are three safety transaction guidelines for bank customers.

1. Firstly, Kresno reminded the basic rule of never letting your ATM card and its PIN be used or end up in the possession of another person other than the appointed holder.

2. The second tip is to identify for odd signs that are out of the ordinary at the ATM that you are about to use. Kresno mentioned several oddities that would include,” Skimmers, glue residues, card slots that look thicker than the usual slots in other ATMs, or the if it may have a different color than the ordinary,” he said.

If you find these irregularities then it is wise not to continue with your transaction and report it to the bank that owns the ATM if possible.

3. Lastly, according to Kresno, always be eagle-eyed when conducting a transaction with an EDC and never let your card slip out of your sight.
