NU: Attack on Religion Leaders Implies Hatred on Religion  

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Executive Board of Nahdatul Ulama (NU) responded to the attack on St. Lidwina Church which injured the local religious leaders on Sunday, February 11. NU Chairman of the Legal, Human Rights and Legislation Affairs, Robikin Emhas said the attack on religious figures imply religious hatred.

In the NU's record, there have been four consecutive violations against religious leaders. Umar Basri, NU figure and Head of Islamic Boarding School Al Hidayah, Bandung, HR. Prawoto, on January 27, Brigadier of PP PERSIS in Bandung on February 1, Monk Mulyanto Nurhalim and his followers in Tangerang on February 7, and the last, Father Edmund Prier and his congregations at St. Lidwina Church.

Robikin said the violence, terror, radical and other extreme acts are against Islam and contrary to the behavior of Prophet Muhammad SAW.

According to him, violence against religious leaders, based on hatred of religious sentiments, potentially produce a sense of mutual suspicion and ruin the unity which can be a serious security interference.
