TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Religious Commission, Khatibul Umam Wiranu, said that the government should not regulate the salary deduction for zakat from Muslim civil servants (PNS).
Umam explained that the 2.5 percent salary deduction each month is not in accordance with the law, it does not have a foundation in juridical, philosophical and sociological. The procedure for calculating zakat is regulated on Minister of Religious Affairs Regulation (PMA) No. 52/2014.

In the Article 26 Paragraph (1) and (2) PMA, it is mentioned that the mandatory zakat income worth 653 kilograms of grain or 524 kg of rice. While the zakat of income and service is 2.5 percent.
“There is no regulation on the salary deduction for zakat income,” said Umam.
