TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) still relies on the Metro Jaya Regional Police to find the hydrochloric (acid) sprayer to the KPK senior investigator Novel Baswedan. Therefore, the authority to solve the Novel case is in the police, not KPK.

"KPK is not authorized to handle it, so what we can do now is to coordinate with the Police," said KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah at KPK building, South Jakarta, on Monday, January 22.

"We will provide support in accordance with the KPK's authority," Febri said.

Several former KPK leaders and activists who are members of the Coalition of Civil Society Care for KPK continue to urge the government to form (Fact-finding Team) TGPF. However, KPK Chairman Agus Rahardjo still questioned the effectiveness of TGPF.

In December 2017, Agus did not expressly state that TGPF is not needed. He encouraged the police to solve the Novel case.

Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) activist Tama Satrya Langkun believes that the investigation of the Novel case is not only borne by the government. KPK cannot ignore their responsibility and submit the case entirely to the police. Both must work hard earnestly.

Tama considers the Novel hydrochloric incident occurred because the KPK ignored the two previous terrors that have been experienced by Novel. Two terrors were in the form of a phone threat and an unknown person hit the motor that was driven by Novel.

"So the small threats seem to be ignored, and because of that, the threats escalates," said Tama, on Tuesday, January 16.

Previously, Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief Inspector General Idham Azis revealed the two sketches of the alleged suspects. Idham said that the sketch was made after the police examined 66 witnesses.

Idham said investigators obtained the sketch detail from the two witnesses with the initials S and SN. Besides that, the findings are due to the cooperation between the Indonesian Center for Automatic Fingerprint Identification System of the Indonesian Police and the Australian Federal Police in investigating a number of CCTV cameras at the case of the Novel Baswedan case.
