TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police Chief Insp. Gen. Idham Azis demanded Jakarta Provincial administration to revise the policy of Jalan Jatibaru Raya closure in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta.
The road closure in front of Tanah Abang Station was a measure taken by Governor Anies Baswedan to manage street vendors (PKL). "This needs a review," Idham said on Saturday, Dec. 30.

Idham explained that an academic review is required to evaluate such a policy. Police will provide a holistic review to Anies Baswedan regarding the effect of the road closure in Tanah Abang.
"There is another solution (to manage street vendors in Tanah Abang rather than closing Jatibaru Street)," Idham went on.
Jakarta Traffic Police Director Sr. Comr. Halim Panggara also asked Anies Baswedan to review the policy. He even suggested relocate the vendors to Block G of Tanah Abang Market. "But it’s free of charge," he said.

Halim claimed that street vendors will be better organized and managed with the relocation since they disturb the convenience of pedestrian and other road users. "Everything will be clear after January 3rd, and we will provide the recommendation (on the policy)," he said.
