TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia publically tested its Soekarno-Hatta airport train yesterday. However, passenger flow management at the Soekarno-Hatta station turned out to be a problem yet to be solved.
“We didn’t expect the substantial enthusiasm from members of the public to try out the station and the airport train services,” said the Head of the Soekarno-Hatta airport station Siswanto, on Tuesday, December 26.
Siswanto explained that the passenger flow during rush hours might possibly cause massive queues if it is not fixed. He also highlighted that the written sign that says integrated building still causes confusion among passengers.
“The term we often use is 'integrated building', this is a term that is difficult to understand. It will later be changed to the term 'station' so that it is easily understandable,” Siswanto continued to explain.
A passenger of the train, Anggi Setiawan (45) confirmed Siswanto’s observation, “When I departed around 02:10 PM, I saw that passenger flow was not great yet, I had to queue for a considerable amount of time,” she said.
During the test run, the airport train will operate 42 travel routes, 21 departures and 21 arrivals with a maximum of 30 minutes waiting time. The train is able to transport 270 passengers on one trip.
The fare during the test run is set on Rp30,000, passengers will be charged with the normal fare once the test run ends on January 2, 2018.
